Accessibility
Our commitment to inclusive reading. Last updated July 2026.
Our commitment
TookBooks™ is designed to be usable by as many readers as possible. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA and treat accessibility as an ongoing effort rather than a one-time checkbox.
Built-in accessibility features
Full keyboard support
Interactive controls are reachable by keyboard with a visible focus ring, and a 'Skip to main content' link is provided on every page.
Dyslexia-friendly font
Switch to a dyslexia-friendly typeface from your profile settings for easier reading.
High-contrast mode
A high-contrast theme strengthens text and borders for low-vision readers.
Reduced motion / Calm mode
Calm mode minimizes animation, and we also honor your system 'prefers-reduced-motion' setting.
Adjustable text size
Choose from multiple text-size steps so content scales to your comfort.
Semantic, labelled UI
Landmarks, alt text on images, and ARIA labels help screen readers announce the page clearly.
How to turn features on
Most preferences live under your Profile settings and are saved to your account, so they follow you across devices. System-level settings such as reduced motion are detected automatically.
Known limitations
Some book data and cover images come from third parties (for example Open Library) and may occasionally lack complete descriptions. We are continually improving these areas.
Report a barrier
If you encounter an accessibility barrier, we want to fix it. Use the Contact page and we will work with you directly.
