Community standards
How we keep TookBooks™ workable for teen and YA readers. Effective May 2026.
Intent
Respect other readers, honour spoiler choices, and assume good faith when you disagree about a book.
These standards sit next to the Terms: serious or repeated harm can lead to moderation or account limits.
Enforcement ladder (typical progression)
1. Automated or human review may hold text while it is screened.
2. Visible warning or short throttle (rate limits already protect against spam bursts).
3. Hiding problematic content while we investigate coordinated reports.
4. Longer suspension or account closure for credible safety risk, unlawful content, harassment, ban evasion, or abuse of tooling.
Exact steps depend on context; escalation is proportional to severity and precedent.
Transparency & appeals
Moderators may annotate internal notes for investigations. Automated scores are assists, not final judgments.
If your written review was hidden after moderation, submit a civil appeal under Reading space → Reviews → Appeals—we aim to acknowledge during staffed hours.
Repeated unfounded appeals or harassment toward moderators may itself be enforcement-relevant.
Blocking & safety tools
Readers can block other accounts from their vantage point—blocks are asymmetric by design.
For urgent emergencies, rely on local emergency services first; Contact is supplemental.
